Hightail Trina "Trina" Trina was an abuse/rescue case we took on Spring of 2017. She was emaciated and very scared of people when we went to see her. She was rehabilitated and started under saddle as well as being put through 2 years of intensive groundwork, desensitization, training, and trail riding until she was sold Summer of 2020. Trina did not work out for the lady that bought her and we took her back. She was hauled and trail ridden to several places in Minnesota throughout her time with her. She will forgo a tune up this Spring to see where she is at under saddle and out on the trails. It is planned to take her down to the Bottoms and potentially have a few overnight weekends on her before she is listed again as she has been out of my care/training for 2 years and I haven't had the time for her since she returned yet. Only reason for selling is she will not have a continuous rider long term and does not deserve to sit.
Trina will be needing a home with a owner that uses positive reinforcement and natural horsemanship methods. That understands and has experience with abused/neglected horses and has the confidence to work with one if any problems were to arise in new situations or things that may be triggering. Trina is an absolute sweetheart and tries to impress. She is a completely different horse than how she was when she came here. My cautiousness comes from wanting to limit any possibilities of her ending up in the wrong hands. With all of the time and bonding I have put in to this mare to get her to where she is now I don't want that to go to waste. I am only going to rehome her to the BEST potential fit for both the potential new owner and Trina herself. She needs an experienced rider that can offer some consistency. If there is any interest in her becoming a broodmare I would be happy to see that. She does not fit in with our breeding program which is why we haven't been using her. If you may be or are interested and would like to know more about feel free to contact! Please also provide information on yourself and your experience in the horse industry.
When we first got Trina: Trina was so abused to the point where any fast movements, she would shy away and physically start shaking until she was left alone and allowed space to calm down. You couldn't have her tied and walk up to her without her constantly halter pulling. This has been one of the worst cases I have seen and worked with so far as being a trainer. If she is handled wrong or with someone that will use more cowboyish methods or does a lot of negative reinforcement I feel she may revert back to previous behaviors. It must also be known that Trina has had a crack in her front left hoof since we got her. We have been unsuccessful in correcting it between 3 farriers and proper care. We have just been told she's got dry feet. It has not caused any problems for her and she is not soft footed. She also has scarring on her hind legs that she had before be bought her from what we'd assume is getting tangled in fencing. They also have no affect on her physically or sound wise, just superficial (video below).
Videos below are all taken over the years of having her and none of them are from 2021-2022. Updated photos and videos won't be available until May 1st 2023 at the earliest.
დ Has had no health issues & is sound. დ Has had 14 months of training put into her. (2018-2019) დ Trail ridden since Summer of 2019 - (Was continued with her previous owner afterwards. As well as hauled to several trails in Minnesota). დ Has WONDERFUL ground manners, is respectful and is not pushy. დ Patient, is not buddy sour (if consistently worked with). დ Ties - Has had hours of tying time - has been tied to the horse trailer, in the horse trailer, trees, hitching post, tied out overnight. There is always a chance she may halter pull in new situations. დ Traffic safe დ She lunges both ways. დ Has had thorough desensitization and groundwork. დ Has been desensitized to fire. დ LOVES water დ Picks up her feet - Great for the farrier! დ Loads in trailer & has been hauled. Hauls fine! დ Has been ponied from on horseback and an atv. დ Has had fly masks put on & fly boots დ Has been blanketed. დ Is pastured in a herd and is lower in the pecking order but turned into a boss mare at her previous owners. So it depends on the herd dynamic. დ Has been stalled (Doesn't mind). დ Can have music played while riding her.
