Eligibility Requirements
Horses Already in My Program:
- Must have a minimum of 60 days of prior training with me
- Are eligible to begin trail work immediately, as they already have a solid foundation
- May be considered, only if they complete a 30-day refresher with me first
- This allows me to evaluate their mental and physical readiness, reinforce any missing pieces (groundwork, desensitization, solo riding, tying, manners, etc.), and determine if they’re truly prepared for trail work
- I will not accept outside horses for trail training based solely on the owner’s assessment, thank you for understanding.
What to Expect – Trail Training
For Horses Already in My Program:
Your horse will begin trail riding right away, with an emphasis on exposure, confidence-building, and conditioning. Training includes:
- Daily trail rides (1–2 hours) to build stamina and real-world experience
- Riding alone, in pairs, and in groups
- Learning to ride in different positions on the trail (lead, middle, follow)
- Exposure to road riding, traffic, barking dogs, farm animals (cows, goats, etc.), and wildlife (deer, rabbits, turkeys, etc.)
- Navigating through brush, mud, logs, water, and other natural obstacles
- Desensitization to things like campfire smoke, loud music, vehicles, and horses tied nearby
- Extended tying sessions to improve patience and self-regulation
Daily Training Duration
- Each horse is worked 5 days a week.
- Minimum training time is 1 hour per day, tailored to each horse’s needs.
- Total daily interaction/training time may range from 1 to 5 hours, broken up into increments, not a continuous block of time.
- Tying practice: 15 minutes to 1 hour per day (solid time and/or broken up into increments).
- Basic handling and care
- Groundwork and training exercises
- Riding sessions, when appropriate
- Trail riding: 1 to 2 hours, only if the horse is qualified and ready
- If a horse does well and progresses within their minimum training time, no additional work may be needed that day.
- If more support or development is needed, additional time will be provided accordingly.
- Be rescheduled for a different time during the same day when conditions improve
- Be made up on weekends when needed

Training Goals
At the end of trail training, my goal is to produce a horse that is:
- Confident, willing, and forward-moving
- Connected, soft, and responsive
- Comfortable with a variety of trail situations, solo or in company
- Conditioned and experienced for real-world riding
